With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Byron Toney, a cherished member of our Chuck Levin's family, who passed away on August 3, 2024, at the age of 76. Byron dedicated over 25 years to our band & orchestra instrument sales, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

A Life of Service and Music

Born on August 8, 1947, in Oak Ridge, TN, Byron grew up in Paducah, KY, and graduated from Murray State University with a Bachelor of Music Education Degree in 1969. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy Music Program from 1969-1990, retiring as a Senior Chief Musician. His musical talents graced the U.S. Naval Academy Band, where he played tuba, string, and electric bass.

A Passion for Music

Byron’s love for music continued beyond his naval service. He performed with The New Moods, Doc Hochman Dixieland Band, and Zim Zemarel Band throughout the Baltimore-Washington area. His commitment to music extended to his roles in the Navy Musicians Association, Fleet Reserve Association, and American Legion.

Beloved Family Man and Community Leader

Byron is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Cathy, their four daughters, and his 12 beloved grandchildren. His family was his greatest pride. Byron also served his community as President of the Cape St. Claire Garden Club, Chairman of the Board at the Naval Academy Primary School, Eucharistic Minister at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, adjunct faculty at Anne Arundel Community College, and was an avid fisherman.

I had the pleasure of working with Byron for over 10 Years. Very respectful, always cheerful. Spoke greatly about his family, especially his daughters. Once he became a grandfather, he shared pics and endless stories—a very proud Father and Grandfather.
We will surely miss you, thank you for your services.
REST IN PEACE.

I worked with Byron Toney for more than 10 years. Byron always had a smile and a special energy on a daily basis. We talked about his Naval servicce. My brother was a Naval Academy graduate. Our connection with Notre Dame-Navy was a yearly topic of discussion. My life was blessed to spend a few years with Byron. Rest in peace.
The gates of heaven opened and welcomed Byron home with a line of friends and family . The last thing i can say is " A job well done ".
